Wey Tank 300 debuts in Chengdu

Wey has unveiled its first SUV, the Tank 300, at the 23rd Chengdu Motor Show that just started in China. Let’s have a closer look at it.

The body-on-frame vehicle sports an edgy appearance obviously inspired by the Ford Bronco series, and has flared fenders, practical unpainted plastic bumpers, a dual tailgate with a spare wheel cover on it, and side mirrors on thin supports.

The off-roader boasts differential locks on both axles, a solid beam at the rear, per-wheel suspension at the front, and AWD with reduction gear.

The cabin looks much like that of the Mercedes G-Class. The similarities are especially obvious in the infotainment and dashboard design, as well as the overall front panel styling. The air deflectors also look familiar.

The engine range hasn’t been announced yet, but the model will probably ship with the 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine rated at 245 hp (183 kW), which Wey used before. The transmission will likely be eight-speed automatic.

Sales should begin either in late 2020 or early 2021.
