Nissan ushers in the new Patrol/Armada

The next-generation Nissan SUV has officially debuted in the United States (as “Armada”) and the United Arab Emirates (as “Patrol”) this week. Buyers can look forward to the same layout, but a more up-to-date cabin and new powertrain options.

Preorders are already being processed in the UAE, while sales in the U.S. are set to begin closer to the end of the year. Customers in North America will additionally get an off-road spec called Pro-4X.

The main engine is a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 rated at 425 PS (419 hp / 313 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. Some markets will also get a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated option with 316 PS (312 hp / 232 kW) and 386 Nm (285 lb-ft). The only transmission available is nine-speed automatic, and the drive is on all four wheels. Reduction gear and a rear diff lock are also available, but the diff lock is restricted to certain modifications.

The Nissan Armada Pro-4X for North America will ship with geometrically optimized bumpers for off-road driving, 20-inch wheels shod in mud tires, and undercarriage protection. Air-ride suspension and rear diff lock are included as standard in this edition.

Prices in the UAE begin from the equivalent of U.S. $65,000. The actual pricing for North America remains to be announced.
