This Saleen S351 Mustang formerly owned by George Foreman, retired Olympic champion and world champion in heavyweight boxing, is now up for bidding in the United States.
Customized and tuned by Steve Saleen in his shop, the S351 is considered one of America’s fastest cars produced in the 1990s. It vastly surpassed the stock Mustang GT and Cobra models in power and could effortlessly hit 277 km/h (172 mph). This particular example was used by the Saleen press service until Foreman bought it out and proceeded to keep it virtually unused in his car collection. This background is fully documented, the listing says.
Ford introduced the fourth generation of the Mustang in 1994, giving it a 4.6-liter V8 engine. In 1995, Saleen swapped the car to an older, but more powerful 5.8-liter V8. It received new pistons and connecting rods, a Vortech mechanical supercharger, a different driveshaft and an improved intake. The output was estimated at 517 PS (510 hp / 380 kW) and 671 Nm (495 lb-ft) of torque. A Tremec TR-3550 five-speed manual gearbox carried the momentum to the wheels.
In addition to these modifications, every S351 ended up with a body kit, Racecraft heavy-duty suspension parts, 18-inch magnesium wheels by Speedline shod in Pirelli P Zeros, and high-end brakes. The interior was overhauled with Recaro bucket seats, an audio system with CD and cassette support, and an air conditioner.
The listing claims that the original odometer was replaced after 813 km (505 miles) of use. It currently shows 365 km (227 miles), so the car should be close to pristine condition.
