2,000-HP Ford Transit claims the title of Nürburgring’s fastest van

Ford Performance has reported a new record set by a modified version of its fully electric prototype racer known as the Transit SuperVan 4.2. The insane family car lapped up the North Loop – all 20.8 kilometers of it – in 6 minutes 48.393 seconds.

Romain Dumas was behind the steering wheel this time around. Just six years ago, he drove a similarly equipped Volkswagen ID.R Concept to the finish line in 6 minutes 5.336 seconds, making the ID.R the Nürburgring’s fastest electric vehicle of that year. Later on, he piloted an earlier version of the SuperVan at the 2023 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado, USA, setting another record. The van has since been tuned to deliver around 2,028 PS (2,000 hp / 1,492 kW) to the wheels.

With the industry gradually switching to electric cars, the ‘Ring record was soon overwritten – first by the UK-made Lotus Evija X and most recently by the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, which is still recognized as the fastest sedan on the challenging German track. None of these vehicles is mass-produced. The SuperVan may look a little like its street-legal counterpart, but it was actually built from the ground up as a pure race car.

Ford has already commented on the record, claiming that the SuperVan ranked ninth in the Best Lap Time category, coming ahead of the recently unveiled Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X. Of course, the big difference is that the Corvette is legal to drive on the streets.
