According to Automotive News quoting anonymous sources within the company, Acura is getting a full-size crossover SUV ready to debut that can give the Lexus TX a run for its money.
This still-unnamed SUV is envisioned with three seat rows, more than 5 meters (16.4 feet) of body length and an innovative hybrid powertrain that’s reportedly still under development. The exterior remains a mystery, but the media speculate that it may end up inspired by Acura’s Precision EV Concept (see video).
The production is allegedly set to start in Alabama in late 2029. Acura reckons that it can make up to 40,000 such vehicles per year. The full-size luxury SUV market in the United States sees around 200,000 annual units sold, so that seems like a realistic expectation. If nothing else, it should do Acura good to expand into a new market segment and diversify its offerings.
