ABT Sportsline launches the RS5-R Sportback in Europe

When Audi debuted its RS5 Sportback hot hatch in March last year, it chose to prioritize US and Canada markets over Europe. The reason was simple: both markets lacked the RS4 Avant, so there was a gap to fill. After a while, the Sportback made it to Europe at last, and prompted ABT Sportsline to start offering its RS5-R variant there.

Just like its North American pendant, the European RS5 gets the same ABT aero kit made of carbon and finished with a glossy look. Included are front canards, huge quad exhaust finishers, a sporty rear diffuser, a small trunk spoiler lip etc.

The tuner ships in-house designed 21-inch rims painted black, as well as a variety of carbon trim elements for the cabin. There are some technical improvements, too. For one, ABT persuades the engine to output 509 horsepower (380 kilowatts) instead of the standard 442 hp (330 kW). The upgrade comes with a warranty valid for 4 years or 161,000 kilometers (100,000 miles), whichever comes first.

There is an important reservation to make, though. When ABT Sportsline launched its RS5-R Sportback in the USA, it said the total production amount would be limited to 50 units. Back then, we were misled into thinking the limit only applied to the U.S. release. As it turns out, the entire (international) production run is just 50 examples. So act quick if you want to grab a copy!
