Caterham’s first EV shows up in a teaser vid

Caterham has shared a teaser of a concept car named Project V, which the company plans to unveil in its full glory on July 12. Unlike the marque’s current cars, it will feature a completely different approach to design and run on electric power alone. Caterham assures us that all the core brand values will be preserved despite the EV transition.

The video shows a darkened silhouette of the car with a distinctly visible fixed top – all current Caterhams are roadsters, so that’s yet another detour from the original formula.

The company’s traditional design inspired by the iconic Lotus Seven also seems to have gone down the drain. The video focuses on flared front fenders, LED DRLs and a full-fledged windshield at the front. The exterior is a work of Italdesign, so we are in for a treat in any case.

Caterham claims that, just like all of its earlier works, the Project V will be lightweight, simple and emotion-packed. It never says outright that it is a concept car, but everything points to that being the case. However, since July 12 sounds like this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, chances are good that we will see the EV in motion at that event.

The British marque’s transformation into an all-electric vehicle manufacturer marks its 50th anniversary. Caterham acquired the rights for the original Lotus Seven in 1973.
