Check out a C5 ‘Vette that tries to reconcile old with new

A one-off Chevrolet C5 Corvette with plenty of modern upgrades on board and 1960s-era looks is currently looking for a new owner. It has around 30,000 km (a touch under 18,700 miles) on the odo and goes for $100,000.

Starting with the exterior, there is no ignoring how disproportionate the car looks due to its bulky C2-style body and relatively cramped C5 greenhouse. We suspect the owner did not bother to redesign the glass dome and just swapped the body panels to make it look three generations older than it was. One way or another, the result is a car executed at a high professional level with few seams and great attention to details (note the pop-up headlights and the OEM taillights).

Powering the restomod is a modern 5.7-liter LS6 V8 assisted by a supercharger. A six-speed manual gearbox sends around 532 PS (525 hp / 391 kW) and 705 Nm (520 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels, so the coupe can rival some modern sports cars in terms of performance.

To our mild disappointment, the cabin stays largely stock and has no highlights apart from fresh-looking red-and-black leather trim.

Would you hand over $100,000 for such a ‘Vette?
