All-electric Citroen eC3 debuts on official terms

Not long ago, Citroen launched a gas-powered C3 model in India and South America. The car is under 4 meters (13.1 feet) long and has nothing in common with its hatchback-bodied namesake from Europe. Now, the automaker unveiled a fully electric variant of the same car, named the eC3.

The eC3 is slated to go on sale in India in February and should only be available in that country for the time being. It looks nearly identical to its gas-powered counterpart inside and out – even the gas tank lid is present, although only as a welded stub that you cannot open. The charging port resides on the right fender.

An electric motor drives the front wheels with 57 PS (56 hp / 42 kW) and 143 Nm (105 lb-ft) of torque. The traction battery holds 29.2 kWh of juice and lacks temperature regulation, meaning you will have to spend a whole hour sitting at a charging station waiting for the pack to go from 10 to 80 percent while slowly dissipating the heat.

Sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 6.8 seconds. The top speed amounts to 107 km/h (66.5 mph), and Indian certification bodies estimate the range at 320 km (199 miles).
