FangChengBao Leopard 7 primes for launch

BYD has registered its fourth FangChengBao-branded vehicle in China, the Bao 7 (translated as Leopard 7).

As one would expect, it slots in between the Leopard 5 and 8 models as a middle-ground spec of sorts. However, while both 5 and 8 are serious off-roaders with a body-on-frame design (see video), the 7 is a unibody SUV. That’s the biggest distinction to keep in mind.

The vehicle is sized 4,999 x 1,995 x 1,865 mm large with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm and five seats in the cabin. The powertrain includes a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW) and an electric motor with 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW). Once fueled with an LFP battery installed, it weighs 2,257 kilos (4,975 lbs).
