One-off, nearly-1000-hp Ferrari F40 sells for $2.75M

A unique grey Ferrari F40 with an extensive background in motorsports and a tuned engine cropped up at a recent auction in Arizona and brought its seller a fabulous $2,750,000.

The supercar rolled off the assembly line in 1989 and was retrofitted for track use by Cavallino Tuning three years later. It was resprayed in yellow and participated in the seasons of 1993 and 1994, after which its owner decided to upgrade it to above 710 PS (700 h p / 522 kW).

Tuned like this, the F40 hit the racetrack again and competed until the end of 1998, although the listing is light on details. It was then acquired by a Ferrari collector who had it finished in Nardo Grey and further modified to output nearly 1,000 horsepower (750 kilowatts). It could thus be the world’s only F40 model to boast more than twice the original power.

The winning bidder took delivery of the vehicle in flawless condition with its exterior and cabin maintained as-new. Aside from the drivetrain mods, it had an aftermarket hood installed, a rear wing, side mirrors, seats, a gear lever and a steering wheel. The seller pointed out that it was still street-legal.
