Ford shows Bronco Sport along with its big brother

Along with the full-size, body-on-frame Bronco SUV, Ford has premiered its smaller twin – the Bronco Sport. Or is it even a twin? Let’s find out.

In truth, the compact SUV comes based on a different technological platform and therefore cannot be compared directly to the full-size Bronco. Having said that, it still packs an impressive array of off-road driving assists, including seven readily selectable drive modes, an off-road-friendly implementation of cruise control, and AWD in the base spec. Badlands and First Edition trims add a lockable rear differential to the mix.

The compact crossover comes with two turbocharged engines to choose between. The 1.5L option has 184 hp (137 kW) and 258 Nm (190 lb-ft) of torque, whereas the 2.0L boasts 249 hp (185 kW) and 373 Nm (275 lb-ft). Both ship with eight-speed automatic transmission and no further options. Both also feature per-wheel suspension, although the settings differ from spec to spec.

Like its senior sibling, the baby Bronco has an easily washable interior, but its SYNC3 infotainment display cannot grow any larger than eight inches. The base trim level includes the Ford Co-Pilot360 assist package, and there is adaptive cruise control listed under options.

The Ford Bronco Sport will hit the showrooms throughout USA later in 2020. Prices remain pending, but the company takes pre-order deposits of $100.
