Ford Maverick goes camping while you wait for yours to be delivered

The Ford Maverick proved so popular the manufacturer had to stop taking orders until it processed all the backorder. Still, some of us were lucky to get one close to the launch date. In this video, Maverick First Edition owner Justin shows off his truck – and its camping add-on.

As much as some of us would appreciate it, there is no camper upgrade option in the ford catalog. Furthermore, page 253 of the Maverick user manual explicitly states that the company advises against installing such upgrades. On the other hand, there is no explicit prohibition, either.

Justin decided to give it a try and ended up with a rather functional compact truck that now burns around 10.7 liters of gas (22 MPG) on the highway instead of the usual 8.1 liters (29 MPG) without it.

The camper itself weighs around 318 kilograms (700 pounds). The truck has a Ford EcoBoost engine, all-wheel drive, a two-inch suspension lift, and BF Goodrich rubber on all four wheels.

Found inside the living module are a bed, a kitchen, a fridge, a sink, a portable WC, and storage niches. Solar panels feed power to a 100-Ah lithium battery, and there is a stainless-steel clear water tank on board with a heater. Overall, we’d say the Maverick is pretty well equipped for the size and weight given.
