Saleen-tuned Ford Mustang loses $52k in depreciation over two years

Back in 2023, Saleen Automotive celebrated its 40th anniversary with a batch of just 10 exclusive Mustang speedsters featuring a posh aero kit, a custom interior and a heavily tuned engine. Prices started around $150,000, but one of the cars has now changed hands for fifty grand less than that.

Each SA-40 Speedster came finished in a special shade called Speedlab Yellow and featured a black leather interior bearing Steve Saleen’s personal signature. A removable carbon-fiber hardtop was offered as a substitute for the fixed roof, and a pair of humps with diffuser blades behind the seats helped divert the air from the passengers.

Further interior additions included a new steering wheel, heated/ventilated seats, and added dash gauges for monitoring the current air temperature and the boost pressure.

In addition to the above, Saleen outfitted every car with a custom supercharger kit that drove the stock 5.0-liter V8 to 811 PS (800 hp / 596 kW). A 10-speed automatic transmission sent the momentum to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential.
On the outside, the SA-40 Speedster is immediately recognizable by the tuner’s badges and lettering. It also wears a sleek body kit consisting of splitters, diffusers and fender flares said to improve its drag performance.

The car seen in the gallery here only had 120 km (75 miles) under its belt when it went on sale, but the winning bidder snatched it for $104,500. That’s a big discount from the $156,472 that the original owner paid. Interestingly enough, the ownership record shows just one owner to date, and it’s none other than Steve Saleen himself. Was it a part of his personal collection? Or did he fail to find enough buyers even for the 10 originally announced cars? We may never know.
