Last year Japanese tuner Mugen revealed a prototype aerodynamic kit for the Honda Civic Type R, called the RC20GT. The extreme racing theme of the kit garnered some polar responses from Honda fans. Some praised as a bold design move and others (many others, for that matter) criticized it for being way over-the-top. Recently, the tuner released an improved version of the kit, so let’s take a look at that.
Frankly speaking, improvements are few and far between. There’s the same ugly behemoth of a radiator grille, humongous diffusor and sky-scratching rear wing. On the other hand, the front spoiler now looks more aesthetic, and the side mirrors are no longer as wildly futuristic as they had been.
The interior now sports nice-looking bucket seats with racing-grade safety belts, so that’s also an improvement.
It has to be noted that the Mugen RC20GT kit for the Honda Civic Type R is still very much a work in progress; you cannot even pre-order it right now. And, if nothing else, it does a lot to improve the aerodynamic performance of the sporty hatchback, the company claims.
