Honda HR-V/Vezel debuts in Europe

The third generation of the Honda HR-V has officially debuted in the EU and will go on sale later this year, although the company will be shipping cars from Japan. Below is what we know to date.

For the most part, the new HR-V is close or identical to its Japanese variant named Vezel. However, the only powertrain that will be available in Europe is e:HEV, previously known as the i-MMD. It is a range extender system that uses a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine with 106 PS (105 hp / 78 kW) and 127 Nm (94 lb-ft) of torque to provide power to the main electric motor rated at 131 PS (129 hp / 96 kW) and 253 Nm (187 lb-ft) of torque.

Fuel consumption varies between 3.2 and 3.7 liters per 100 kilometers according to the JC08 standard adopted in Japan. WLTC-rated consumption is higher at 4–4.5 liters.

The Vezel is available in FWD and AWD versions on its domestic market, but it remains to be seen whether both will be available in the Old World. Drive modes include Econ, Normal, and Sport.

The original Vezel is 4,330 mm long, 1,790 mm wide and 1,590 mm with 2,610 mm between the axles and 195 mm of clearance. Tires come in sizes 215/60 R16 and 225/50 R18. There is no guarantee that the HR-V will be the same, though.

Interior features include a 7-inch digital dash screen, a 9-inch infotainment display, and a two-zone climate control system.

Honda has stopped car production in Europe for the time being, so the HR-V will be imported from Japan. Prices remain to be announced.
