Spied: subcompact Jeep CUV rumored to be coming soon

It has been seven years since rumors began about a small Jeep crossover SUV coming to the market, but new spy shots seem to confirm that such a model is almost ready for production.

The automaker’s smallest CUV is expected to be based on the same CMP chassis and tech as the Opel Mokka and DS 3 Crossback, and occupy the market slot below the Renegade. The pictures show it still wearing heavy camo extending as far as the grille, headlights, taillights and rear side windows. It is still evident that the car has short overhangs and sporty outlines.

Using the CMP platform will enable Jeep to offer a wide range of powertrains, including gasoline, diesel, hybrid and even all-electric. The latter is expected to have a single motor rated at 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW) and a modest-sized 50-kWh traction battery.

The launch is expected sometime later this year, although there has been no confirmation from Jeep yet.
