Jaguar Land Rover decided to mix things up in the Range Rover department by introducing GT, an all-electric car for well-paved roads. It’s slated to go on sale before the end of the year, so let’s take a closer look.
Although called a Grand Tourer by JLR, the Range Rover GT looks like your typical coupe-like crossover. It features a low roof, low road clearance and slim LED lights at both ends. We still don’t know how large it is, and the rest of the current Range Rover looks too different to draw any meaningful parallels.
Where things get interesting is the interior. It looks surgically clean, laconic and overall inspired by the automaker’s another experimental vehicle, the Jaguar Type 00 (see video). Traditional physical buttons can only be found on the steering wheel, while the rest of the controls are accessible via the sizeable head unit display. The digital gauge cluster sits under the windshield shaped like a long, slim screen.
No powertrain specifics are available. The only thing that’s confirmed is that the Range Rover GT starts off as an EV and may later get a hybrid version.
JLR describes the model as the closest the company’s ever got to a light passenger car. It’s also being billed as a standalone model not meant to replace any other vehicle on the current lineup.
