Tuned Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S breathes down Ferrari 458 Italia’s neck

The coupe-like Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S is arguably as good as this kind of car gets straight from the factory. Nonetheless, PerformMaster found issue with its engine producing ‘only’ 612 PS (602 hp / 450 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft).

Installing an external ECU module persuaded the four-liter twin-turbo V8 to start pumping out 712 PS (702 hp / 524 kW) and up to 950 Nm (700 lb-ft) of torque. Bolstered like this, the SUV hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.6 seconds, almost catching up with the Ferrari 458 Italia and its 3.4 seconds. Top speed goes from 250 to 300 km/h (155 to 186 miles per hour).

The upgrade has three interesting features that we’d like to point out. First, it automatically reverts the boost settings to safe values if the powertrain starts overheating. Second, it can be easily plugged in and out, so no permanent modifications are necessary. Third, it comes with a TUV certificate in Germany, so making it road-legal in your country should not be an issue.
