Rare Mercedes-Benz AMG Hammer poised to fetch $0.6M

A 36-year-old Mercedes-Benz AMG Hammer from a batch of around 30 such cars will go on sale in the United States in early March expected to sell for $575,000–625,000.

AMG designed its Hammer model based on the stock Mercedes-Benz 300E. Only 13 examples were made for the North America. The biggest improvement was in the engine: the stock inline-six mill made room for a 6.0-liter V8 rated up to 385 PS (380 hp / 283 kW) and 564 Nm (416 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission was four-speed auto. Other upgrades included suspension and aerodynamic parts, as well as the tuner’s signature wheels.

The auction holder says the original owner of the car ordered it straight from the AMG CEO in North America. Aside from the key features listed above, he specified it with a sports exhaust system and wooden interior trim.

RENNtech carried out a complete restoration of the car a year ago. The team was led by none other than Hartmut Feyhl, the ex-CTO of AMG North America. While they were at it, the tuners installed a modern audio system in the car while keeping the rest of the trim untouched.

Along with his purchase, the winning bidder will be getting a thick stack of documents, including the correspondence between AMG and the original owner of the car, as well as assorted OEM papers.
