Mercedes’ new GLC iteration takes notes from the C-Class

The next generation of the Mercedes-Benz GLC will be assembled in Germany and China, but all pricing and availability dates will be revealed later.

The new mid-size crossover SUV is 60 mm (2.4 inches) longer than the previous model and rides 4 mm (0.2 inches) lower, but otherwise retains the dimensions of its predecessor. The trunk is also around 10 percent larger than before at 600 liters (21.1 cubic feet).

Design-wise, the vehicle comes pretty close to the C-Class. The same can be said about the tech: rear wheel steering, four-link suspension at the front and a multi-link setup in the back – there are many similarities between the two.

The interior also prompts parallels with the C-Class thanks to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 11.9-inch MBUX infotainment display.

All engine options are electrified and come with a nine-speed transmission. Mild hybrids are available with 197, 204 and 258 metric horsepower (194, 201 and 254 hp; 145, 150 and 190 kW, respectively). Plug-in hybrids are predictably more powerful at 313, 333 and 381 PS (309, 328 and 376 hp; 230, 245 and 280 kW). All-electric driving range exceeds 100 km (62 miles) for the PHEVs.
