Opel has formally unveiled its first GSE-series vehicle: the compact-sized Mokka crossover. It landed with a 280-PS (276-hp / 206-kW) FWD powertrain and sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.9 seconds, which should make it the fastest production Opel on the market whenever it may go on sale.
It’s still unknown when that may happen, though. Opel claims that the car was heavily inspired by the GSE Rally Concept, which it had tested across a number of real racing events. The shock absorbers, the steering and the brakes with yellow calipers are all track-spec, the company says.
As for the e-motor system driving the front wheels, it uses a Torsen differential and exerts 345 Nm (254 lb-ft) of torque. The top speed is capped at 200 km/h (124 mph). A 54-kWh battery pack is included as standard, but all range figures are pending. The car weighs 1.6 metric tons (around 3,530 lbs) and supports three drive presets: Sport, Normal and Eco. Normal limits the speed to 180 km/h (112 mph) to extend range, and Eco goes even further to maximize the battery efficiency.
The exterior of the car is replete with bright yellow accents. The wheels are 20 inches large, the seats are bucket-shaped and clad in Alcantara, and the steering wheel is new. The infotainment system on board doesn’t look too different, but sports a new UI with a dedicated telemetry mode to keep the driver informed about G forces and acceleration.
