There is a popular opinion that the best Porsche-branded sports cars stem not from Germany, but rather from California, USA. This is where Singer Vehicle Design restores classical Porsche 911 (964), turning each unit into a unique masterpiece. Here’s another one.
This restomod, codenamed Malibu, rolled off the assembly lines in 1991 and underwent a thorough overhaul, after which it only covered 2,574 km (1,600 miles). RM Sotheby’s wants U.S. $875,000 for it now, so let us look at the highlights of the project and see what is worth the steep asking price.
The elderly 911 rides on brand-new Öhlins suspension and packs a custom opposite-six-cylinder turbo engine made by Ed Pink Racing Engines. With four liters of displacement at its disposal, the unit churns out 390 hp (290 kW) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque to the rear axle by means of a six-speed manual gearbox. Given the extremely light carbon-fiber body and kit, the restomod actually approaches to the newest 911.992 in terms of raw acceleration performance.
The interior is equally gorgeous, with its Recaro bucket seats, light-brown leather finish, a classical dash panel, and a high-end audio system.
There is no doubt that the Malibu will find a new owner soon, because Singer vehicles enjoy enormous popularity, and the workshop has its work cut out for at least another year or so.
