U.S.-based tuner Gunther Werks started shipping its 400R track day tool – essentially modded Porsche 911 (993) coupes – to clients. Randy Pobst of Motor Trend was lucky enough to get his hands on the first copy and has already set a record piloting it.
The custom ride churns out 431 hp (321 kW) and up to 423 Nm (312 lb-ft) of torque. Even more importantly, it weighs in at mere 1,224 kilograms (under 2,700 lbs). As a result, its power-to-weight ratio is superior even to that of the latest 911 GT3 RS. To further optimize its acceleration dynamics, Gunther revs the engine up to 8,100 RPM and installs a medium-weight flywheel.
Driving the yellow coupe on the Willow Springs Raceway, Pobst hit the finish line in mere 1 minute 26.9 seconds, leaving behind even the Mercedes-AMG GT S and the Porsche 991.1 Turbo S Coupe.
