Porsche officially admits considering a Panamera Coupe

The first generation of the Porsche Panamera sedan emerged in 2009 to immediately become a magnet for rumors, including those about an alleged two-door version. Today, the German sports car maker came out with an official statement clarifying its position.

As Panamera Project Manager Thomas Friemuth revealed during an online roundtable discussion, Porsche has been thinking about launching a coupe version of the Panamera for a while. Answering a direct question posed by an Australian reporter, he admitted that no definite conclusion has been reached so far with regard to the viability of such a project.

The automaker continues expanding its target audience all the time, but unlike its competition does not seem eager to enter the two-door “Gran Turismo” segment of the market. If a two-door Panamera were to hit the market sometime in the future, it would prove sportier than its five-door cousin and more daily driver-friendly than the iconic 911.

A number of British media posted a rumor last spring claiming that the Panamera Coupe was already underway to its market release in 2020 based on a shortened version of the MSB architecture (seat formula: 2+2). Had it been so, it would have inherited the traits of the 928 model and possibly been given the number 929.

No official design sketches of the Panamera Coupe exist to date, so the pictures in our gallery are all unofficial 3D renderings.
