Chinese automaker Leapmotor has opened pre-order books for an affordable RWD electric car called the B01. The mid-size sedan first introduced at Auto Shanghai is now available with two powertrains and two battery options. Prices range from 105,800 to 135,800 Yuan.
The Leapmotor B01 is the company’s second entry in the “B” range of particularly affordable electric vehicles. Just like the compact-sized B10 SUV that went on sale in China in April priced from 99,800 Yuan, the B01 rides on the Leap 3.5 platform. It has many of the same trim features and options and is sized 4,770 x 1,880 x 1,490 mm large with 2,735 mm of wheelbase – same as the SUV.
The powertrain bits are also the same. The entry-level sedan makes 180 PS (178 hp / 132 kW) and 175 Nm (129 lb-ft) of torque, while the top spec outputs 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) to the rear axle. The former sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.7 seconds, while the latter manages it in 6.4 seconds.
CLTC-rated range for the smaller 56.2-kWh battery pack amounts to 550 km (342 miles). Paying extra for a 67.1-kWh pack will get you 650 Chinese km (404 miles).
The interior has also been largely copied from the B10. There’s a squared two-spoke steering wheel, an 8.8-inch digital dash and a 14.6-inch infotainment display. Adaptive cruise control and surround view cameras are included as standard, and you can pay a premium for a LiDAR-based semi-autonomous driving system.
