An imitation of the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300SL dating back to the 1950s is currently up for grabs in South Africa. A 2001 Mercedes-AMG SLK 32 provides the underpinnings.
The car boasts a lightweight body designed using 3D scanning tech and consisting largely of an aluminum alloy that makes it around 400 kilograms (882 pounds) lighter than the original roadster. A roll bar inside the cabin makes sure the occupants of the car are protected from accidents.
A 3.2-liter turbocharged V6 provides the power, hitting the asphalt with 350 PS (345 hp / 257 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) through a five-speed automatic transmission.
While obtaining a genuine 300SL is a matter of having a spare $1,000,000 or so lying around, we’re pretty sure the replica costs an order of magnitude less than that.
