Aznom, a brand name best known for its truck-based Palladium luxury sedan, has unveiled another bizarre project. It’s a first-generation Smart ForTwo converted to electricity for the youngest drivers in Europe.
Working with a quadricycle made in 2002–2006, Aznom removes its 50-PS (50-hp / 37-kW) engine and puts an electric motor in its place. It’s quite a downgrade, too, because the motor outputs only 20 PS (20 hp / 15 kW). An 11.4-kWh battery pack supplies enough power for 140 km (87 miles) of range.
The good news is that the electric quadricycle can be capped at either 45 or 90 km/h (28 or 56 mph). The former option makes it legal to drive by 14-year-olds with a license in Europe. The latter option suits 16-year-olds.
Aznom emphasizes that all safety features of the original Smart ForTwo carry over. This includes airbags, ABS, ESP, a safety cell, and belt pretensioners.
You can already order the Aznom Smart 4Teen Bespoke Edition in Italy starting from €24,339. A used Smart suitable for an adult driver will set you back around €10,000, so there’s a hefty premium included for all the custom work.
