Suzuki sells its 80,000,000th vehicle since 1955

Suzuki Motor Corp. has announced today, somewhat belatedly, that is sold its 80,000,000th car in late August this year, passing another milestone in its 68-year-long history.

Out of this number, the automaker sold 36 percent of its cars in Japan, another 32.6 percent in India, 13.5 percent in other Asian countries, 10 percent in Europe and 7.8 percent in the rest of the world. Its first vehicle shipped was called Suzulight and saw the daylight in Japan in 1955 (check out the gallery and the video for a closer look).

In 959, the company decided to expand beyond its domestic market and export cars to select countries around the globe. In 1975, it opened its first factory outside of Japan – in Pakistan. Later on, industrial sites also appeared in India and Hungary.

In case you didn’t know, the Suzuki of today is a highly diversified international corporation that’s currently making boat motors, bicycles and all kinds of other products in 10 different countries, selling them in 184 markets around the world.
