2025 VW Golf facelift previewed via sketches

Volkswagen continues to prepare the eighth-generation Golf for a facelift premiere scheduled for late January. The company has just posted a number of design sketches to let us know what to expect.

The redesigned lights are nothing we hadn’t seen before, but then there is also a new front bumper with horizontal bars in the grille. Impressively large exhaust tips, large wheels and an elaborate rear spoiler are also a part of the new design.

What remains unknown is whether these sketches reflect the finalized design of the car or just represent an earlier design study. The hatchback spotted testing on the public roads before had looked much simpler than this.

In any case, the interior is liable to change more than the exterior. At the recent CES expo, Volkswagen previewed the passenger space complete with a state-of-the-art infotainment system and a voice assistant powered by ChatGPT technology. You can find it in the video here.

The 2025 Golf facelift should inherit most of its powertrain options from the current version, but Volkswagen may have to optimize some of them for continued compliance with the regulations. With the automotive giant transitioning to EVs, this Golf generation is expected to be the last to still use internal combustion engines. The next one should arrive in late 2020s and run purely on electricity.
