Affordable Wuling Xingguang 730 goes on sale in China

The long-awaited Wuling Xingguang 730 is now available for preordering on its domestic market, and while the full price remains to be announced, CarNewsChina quotes unofficial sources saying it’s a low $15,000.

The minivan is 4.91 meters (191.8 inches) long and has seven seats. If it really costs as little as the rumors say, it may be China’s cheapest vehicle in the whole segment. We should learn in a few days, but let’s take a look at the specs in the meantime.

Power for the low-end MPV comes from a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine rated at 177 PS (175 hp / 130 kW). As an alternative, you can get a plug-in hybrid with a 106-PS (105-hp / 78-kW) engine and a single electric motor. A fully electric version is also available with 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW) going to one axle. Batteries for it come in 54.5-kWh and 60-kWh sizes, the former delivering up to 450 km (280 miles) and the latter up to 500 km (310 miles) of CLTC-standard range.

The Wuling Xingguang 730 is 1,850 mm (72.3 in) wide and 1,770 mm (69.1 in) tall with 2,910 mm (113.7 in) between the axles. It has three seat rows arranged 2+2+3 front-to-back. There are several trim levels with their own stylistic quirks and loads of customization opportunities, the company claims.

Customers who leave their preorder now – that is, before the showroom sales start – will be getting a 2,000-Yuan discount. This requires making a non-refundable deposit of 1,000 Yuan.
