Mammoth Overland is no stranger to building campers meant to withstand a range of world-ending disasters. Just two years ago, the company rolled out the TallBoy (see video). It has now showcased a similar-looking, but much more extreme armored trailer known as the XLE. Doomsday preppers can buy it for an entirely reasonable price of $124,000 before options.
The name of the trailer stands for “eXtinction Level Escape”, implying that it’s supposed to save you from an extinction-level event. Apparently, Mammoth Overland believes it to be achievable through all-around armor plating, dedicated blast protection, and 25mm (1”) thick ballistic glass. The camper itself features a sturdy aluminum monocoque at its base and supposedly withstands the weight of a couple of adults standing on its roof.
The interior looks fittingly basic but comfortable enough with a shower cabin, a kitchen and a bedroom included in the base spec. There’s also a weapon cabinet on board, a strongbox for valuables, dedicated systems for air and water filtering, and even a Geiger counter to assess the current radiation level. Roof-mounted solar panels provide electricity, and a diesel generator can be used in a pinch as well. Last but not least, inhabitants can completely insulate the interior from the outside world for longer periods, living off rainwater, purified air and whatever foodstuffs they had stocked up on.
