Bentley unveils a painstakingly accurate replica of a pre-WWII racecar

The British premium automaker has come to the Goodwood Festival with a precise copy of Speed Six, a pre-War racecar still considered Bentley’s most successful vehicle in history. Mulliner will be making 12 cars like this one when the pre-production tests are over, but the entire batch was sold out long ago in preorders.

The original Bentley Speed Six scored multiple victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and had an inline six-cylinder engine boosted by a further 20 horsepower for an estimated total of 200 PS (197 hp / 147 kW).

When reproducing the vintage ride, Bentley opened up its archives and found the original blueprints. It also scanned two surviving examples of the classic Speed Six in 3D to get a more complete idea of its design.

Building just this prototype alone took the team 10 months. According to the engineers, dyno runs have shown that the car exceeded its projected specifications slightly, pumping out a healthy 205 PS (202 hp / 151 kW).
