BMW surprise-reveals an odd-looking new EV

The Bavarian automaker has apparently been working on a mysterious Neue Klasse electric car without properly announcing it.

According to BMW Blog, you can find the car in an animation that showcases the ADAS capabilities of the mass-produced iX3 SUV (see video). The vehicle shown there looks like an executive car from the Neue Klasse lineup, but its positioning remains unknown.

The outlines of the virtual ride, especially its c-pillars and body kit parts, make us think of the Vision Neue Klasse and the i Vision Dee, the two concepts that preceded the announcement of the BMW i3. Then again, the giant windshield seen here is not found on any other BMW we know of, and the front fascia looks almost alien with its sealed grille “nostrils” and extremely slim LED headlights.

Some theorize that BMW has yet to announce the Neue Klasse vehicles that will be based on this concept. Others argue that it could be just a 3D rendering used for illustrative purposes. The latter seems more likely to us, since the company uses the model to demonstrate how its driver assistance features interact with the environment.
