BMW iX7 hits the test track

A suspiciously silent BMW X7 prototype has been spied on a test course recently, reports Carscoops. The photographer claims the SUV produced zero engine sounds even when accelerating, a clear hint at its fully electric nature. BMW planned to launch a model like this in two years, so there is still a lot of waiting time.

As you can see, the car in the photos doesn’t have a visible muffler or tailpipes, so it’s probably not a hybrid, either. It is fully camouflaged but sports an unmistakable Neue Klasse look reminiscent of the recent iX3. At the same time, Carscoops believes that the iX7 won’t be running on a Neue Klasse platform – an updated CLAR chassis should be enough.

Like the iX3, the high-end electric crossover will take advantage of next-generation battery cells and high-efficiency motors. It may very well produce around 800 PS (789 hp / 588 kW) in the M70 spec. Considering the Bavarian automaker’s recent merger with Alpina, a 900-PS (888-hp / 662-kW) flagship version is not out of the question, either.
