Chery’s latest plug-in hybrid SUV gains power ahead of launch

Customers in China can already preorder the new Chery Fulwin T9L crossover starting from 140,000 Yuan ($20,250). Originally announced with just one powertrain, it’s now received a second, more powerful option for those looking for a sporty ride.

The original announcement mentioned a 1.5-liter petrol engine rated at 112 PS (110 hp / 82 kW) and an electric system driving the total output up to 329 PS (324 hp / 242 kW). The new version utilizes the same engine boosted to 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW) alongside superior motors, getting up to 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) in hybrid mode.

In all-electric mode, the longest-range variant will take you as far as 230 km (143 miles), Chery claims. Fire up the engine, and the range goes up to nearly 2,000 kilometers (1,242 miles).

The car itself is 4,870 mm (190.2 inches) long, 1,930 mm (75.4 inches) wide and 1,710 mm (66.8 inches) tall with 2,920 mm (114.1 inches) of wheelbase. Available equipment includes wheels sized up to 20 inches large, adaptive shocks, panoramic roof and an infotainment system based on up to three displays – if you include the 17.3-inch ceiling-mounted TV, that is. Paying extra also gets you ventilated and heated seats in all rows.

Max out on the trim, and you can be expected to pay around 170,000 Yuan ($24,600).
