The Chery Omoda 5 CUV debuted in China with a less powerful engine in the base spec than we expected, but the price reflects the fact nicely.
Out of seven modifications on sale, four come equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo mated to a CVT for 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW) and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft) of torque. Buying a crossover like this will set you back 92,900 – 108,900 Yuan.
The remaining three versions use the previously announced 1.6-liter Kunpeng series engine capable of 197 PS (194 hp / 145 kW) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque. A Getrag seven-speed preselector transmission with a wet clutch drives the wheels. Prices range from 108,900 to 128,900 Yuan.
All seven specs are front-wheel drive only. Nothing has been revealed regarding trim levels yet.
The Omoda 5 is expected to become an international model, and should soon obtain the necessary certificates in Europe.
