The Chevrolet Monza entered the market in China three and a half years ago, essentially phasing out the Cruze compact. It is the marque’s most wallet-friendly sedan on that market right now, and the 2023 model year version slashes the prices even lower.
The exterior modifications are few. There is a new front bumper, an enlarged radiator grille, new headlights and 16-inch wheels – but that’s it. Inside, on the other hand, the digital dashboard and infotainment systems are completely new, as are the center console and the drive mode selector. A new wireless charging slot has been added, too. Speaking of features, still missing, climate control comes to mind – buyers will still have to make do with a basic AC.
Powering the cheap saloon is its old 1.5-liter petrol engine rated at 113 PS (111 hp / 83 kW) and 141 Nm (104 lb-ft) of torque. However, the old automatic transmission is no longer available, replaced by a six-speed semi-auto gearbox. As an alternative, buyers can consider a hybrid version with a turbocharged three-cylinder engine and an electric motor, summing up for 163 PS (161 hp / 120 kW) and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft) of torque.
Another good news for Monza buyers in China is that it now starts from the equivalent of U.S. $13,700, a serious improvement over the $16,200 of the pre-facelift version.
