Chinese electric car sets a GWR for fast drifting

The GAC Hyptec SSR has set a Guinness World Record for a successful controlled slide attempt made at 213.523 km/h (132.68 mph). It is now formally recognized as the world’s fastest drift EV.

The trial run was made by Jason Ye in China on October 28, 2025. The conditions for the record were the following: the car must travel at least 50 meters (164 feet) in a controlled slide at an angle of at least 30 degrees to the direction of the track. The previous record in this discipline was set by the Zeekr 001, which managed to pull off a slide at 207.97 km/h (129.23 mph).

While both numbers are impressive by the electric vehicle standards, the gas-powered Nissan GT-R stays undefeated in the overall ranking with a drift slide performed at 304.96 km/h (189.49 mph).

The GAC Hyptec SSR, formerly known as the Aion Hyper SSR, is a fully electric Chinese hypercar powered by a quartet of electric motors together rated at 1,224 PS (1,207 hp / 900 kW). It can zap 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in less than 2 seconds and has a track-only modification. Prices in China range from 1,286,000 to 1,386,000 Yuan, which roughly converts into $180,000–195,000.
