Dacia to unveil a larger-than-Duster SUV this year

The conceptual Dacia Bigster will become a mass-produced crossover later this year, Renault Group says in its annual sales report. It is expected to become the Romanian brand’s largest vehicle so far and have a seven-seat interior.

The original concept celebrated its debut three years ago (see the gallery and the video). Its mass-market version will likely look the same or close to the original design, while the powertrain will likely come from the new Duster. Despite its name, the Bigster is expected to be just around 300 mm (12 inches) longer than the Duster – 4.6 meters (15.1 ft.) or so.

In all likelihood, it will ship with all of the Duster’s high-end powertrains, particularly the hybrid ones. However, some rumors are claiming that Dacia actually intends to offer the Bigster with normal ICE engines as well. In Europe, the Duster has just one non-electrified engine – a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-pot pumping out 100 PS (99 hp / 74 kW). It is mostly bundled with the cheapest trims.

Dacia has another premiere planned for 2024: the next-generation Spring EV is set to arrive this summer packing all-new tech and interior. As for the new Duster, it is scheduled to reach the market in the spring priced from €18,800 in Romania.
