DeLorean team facing IT property theft charges from its ex-employer, Karma

DeLorean, a revived sports car brand that unveiled its all-new Alpha 5 Concept this spring, is looking forward to a court trial following a claim filed by Karma Automotive.

The claimant holds that four executives of the new DeLorean Company collaborated in secret on their new EV project when they were still officially working for Karma. The list includes CEO Joost de Vries, COO Alan Yuan, Brand & Creative VP Neilo Harris, and Marketing Director Troy Beetz.

These individuals are suspected of having used Karma’s protected intellectual property to design the resurrected DeLorean sports car, which is tantamount to IP theft. For their part, the defendants have refuted these claims, stating that the car was their own, independent development not related to Karma in any way.

DeLorean has yet to begin the production of the Alpha 5, which it unveiled this spring (see gallery for details). Like its iconic predecessor, the DMC-12, the newcomer has gull-wing doors, but the two cars are otherwise completely different. The newcomer is an all-electric coupe that’s five meters long and accelerates 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in under three seconds.
