2026 Denza Z9 GT outmuscles the Bugatti Veyron

Denza, a BYD Group sub-brand dedicated to performance EVs, has posted the first official images of its updated Z9 GT hatchback. It may look the same as its predecessor, but the tech has been vastly improved.

On the outside, the new model is solely recognizable by a LiDAR hump above the windshield. The pre-facelift version had the LiDAR tucked away in the front bumper. Aside from that, customers may now opt for a new bluish-green exterior shade called Fjord Green, and that’s about all.

Things look decidedly more interesting on the powertrain front. The current Z9 GT is available in China in two flavors – hybrid and all-electric. The electric version can be ordered with just one e-motor or three. The former configuration sends 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) to the rear axle and can attain a top speed of 240 km/h (149 mph).

The latter uses one e-motor on the front axle and two on the rear end, and comes with a massive power upgrade. Whereas the old Z9 GT commanded an impressive 966 PS (953 hp / 710 kW), the refreshed one hits the four wheels with 1,156 PS (1,140 hp / 850 kW). That’s more horses than the Bugatti Veyron packs in its engine bay.

As for the plug-in hybrid, its power rating stays unchanged at 870 PS (858 hp / 640 kW). At the same time, Denza claims it comes with a new 63.82-kWh battery pack rated for 400 kilometers (248 miles) of all-electric range – twice as much as before the update.

The interior remains to be revealed.
