Watch a 710-PS Dodge Neon hit 323 km/h at a short distance

Dodge has plenty of high-performance cars in its portfolio, but the compact-sized Neon sedan from the 1990s is a remarkable exception. It is nowhere near sporty by modern standards, and transforming it into a drag strip champion would take immense effort. Well, that’s precisely what the tuner in this video did.

He took a 1998 Dodge Neon and had its humble four-pot replaced with the 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder and transmission from the more recent, more powerful SRT-4 version of the car that debuted in 2004. That one produced a healthy 233 PS (230 hp / 171 kW) and could easily be mistaken for a sports car in its era. Still, it was a far cry from enough in the tuner’s book. He had it completely rebuilt and ended up with 710 PS (700 hp / 522 kW) heading for the wheels.

At the latest Texas Mile event, the driver needed five attempts to reach the desired 322 km/h (200 miles per hour) on a mile-long drag strip. In fact, he overkilled that target with 323.3 km/h (200.9 mph) at the finish line.

Watch from 6 minutes, 21 seconds in to witness what could be the world’s fastest Dodge Neon.
