Turkish police dept takes delivery of two dozen supercars

The Police Department of Turkey has complemented its patrol vehicle fleet with 23 expensive cars worth U.S. $3,500,000 combined. All vehicles were confiscated from drug dealers, Daily Telegraph reports quoting Interior Affairs Minister Ali Yerlikaya.

Speaking with the reporters, Yerlikaya said a police raid in Istanbul exposed a drug cartel headed by Hakan Ayik, a man whose wealth is estimated at roughly $1 billion. Over 30 suspects have been arrested and 23 luxury cars confiscated. The court ruled that they should be transferred to the national police force.

This is why you should not be too surprised to see a Ferrari 458 police car on the streets of Turkey. The same goes for Bentley Continental GT, Porsche Taycan and a handful of luxury SUVs, like Range Rover Sport and Mercedes-Benz GLS.

It remains to be decided what specific tasks the seized supercars will fulfill and where, but they have already been wrapped in police liveries, so it’s only a matter of time until they appear on the roads.
