Ferrari Testarossa six-wheeler finds itself amidst a tuner scandal

More than a year ago, Gas Monkey Garage and its owner Richard Rawlings announced an unprecedently ambitious project: a three-axle conversion of the legendary Ferrari Testarossa. It sounded like the work could wrap up in a year or so, but as it is now turning out, the car is not in a good place – and neither are the people who worked on it.

The whole thing started in early 2024 when two tuning companies – Danton Art Kustoms and Frechy Export – produced a six-wheeled AM General Humvee. Powered by a Dodge Hellcat Hemi eight-banger, it only had one driven axle and didn’t look very comfortable to drive, but Rawlings from GMG still liked it. He acquired it and then flipped for U.S. $750,000.

Apparently, there was a spoken agreement between GMG and DAK to start another similar project once the money arrived. Thus did work on the Testarossa begin, only for it to fade from the public sight. Fast-forward to today, and we have Alex Danton of DAK accusing Rawlings of taking the car and the money and not doing anything with it. He event went as far as to denounce Rawlings as a “liar and thief.”

In turn, Rawlings recorded a couple of videos where he claimed Danton passed the car over to him in a terrible state. Allegedly, many custom parts were poorly fabricated and/or installed, the paintwork was subpar and everything had to be redone from scratch. GMG had spent a while fixing the most glaring issues, and the project is still only “sort of okay”, according to Rawlings. The implication is such that wrapping it up properly would take too long and probably cost too much, too.

With this falling-out, the future of the world’s craziest and most polarizing Testarossa is now up in the air. Both parties seem to be blaming each other, but at least they agree on one thing: some ideas are better off never attempted.
