Report: Fiat Panda EV to take competition to China

The next Fiat Panda generation will serve as the Italian company’s weapon in its fight for the market of Europe against cheap China-made electric cars, Quattroruote reports quoting CEO Olivier Francois. The premiere of a Panda EV is expected in early 2024.

According to the executive, the new Panda is being designed right now as an affordable battery vehicle devoid of any luxury. It could start below €25,000, which would allow it to compete not just against the EVs of China, but also their competitors from the Old World, such as the Volkswagen ID.2 or Renault 5.

Citroen is targeting the same price niche with its eC3 model, so we suspect that both could be based on the same platform and motors. The technical specifications of the eC3 remain to be revealed later this month.

Quattroruote adds that Fiat is styling the next Panda in the same vein as its 2019 Centoventi Concept (in the gallery and the video below). That car had an understated, minimalist appearance and looked like it could be rather cheap to produce.
