Ford gets rid of ‘unused’ park assist feature

Ford will cease to install self-parking hardware in its cars after finding out that nearly no one has used it in real-life situations. This decision alone is expected to save millions of USD for the company, CarBuzz points out.

Ford launched the Active Park Assist in 2009 alongside similar solutions from other automakers. A decade and a half later, the company had to admit that the feature had barely been used at all. Slow and not particularly smart, it often fumbles around until frustrated drivers overtake the controls and park the car themselves.

According to Kumar Galhotra, COO at Ford, the company feels safe about abandoning this feature. For the vast majority of customers, it will go completely unnoticed. On the upside, Ford will be able to save $60 on every vehicle built from now on, for a cumulative $10,000,000 saved every year.
