2022 Ford Fiesta debuts in Europe

After four years of production, Ford Motor Company has modernized the seventh generation of the Fiesta hatchback for Europe.

All trim levels have carried over into the facelift. Murat Gueler, Design Chief of Ford Europe, said he went for a more ‘mature’ look for the 2022 Fiesta, giving it an edgier front fascia and slimmer headlights with new LED lights inside (now standard in all trims). The radiator grille has become larger and now houses a Ford badge. The front bumper and the hood are likewise modified, and the taillights are blacked out. Customers can opt for two new finishes, blue and Bordeaux red, as well as seven designs of wheels coming in 17 and 18 inch diameters.

The entry-level Fiesta ships with a 1.0-liter gasoline engine rated at 100 PS (99 hp / 74 kW). The other two options – one good for 125 PS (123 hp / 92 kW) and the other for 155 PS (153 hp / 114 kW) – are part-electric. They use a starter-generator with a belt drive, which gets its power from regenerative braking and can provide a modest boost during acceleration.

Transmissions include six-speed manual and seven-speed DCT. The Fiesta ST keeps its 1.5-liter engine rated at 200 PS (197 hp / 147 kW) and benefits from a torque increase from 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) to 320 Nm (236 lb-ft). It still needs 6.5 seconds to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph), though.
