Next-gen Ford Edge spied testing in cold weather

The new Ford Edge was first spotted on the roads of China last August. It looked distinctly different from the current generation, making us wonder whether the U.S. version would follow suit. The latest spy shots let us have another look at the China spec, which was nabbed testing on winter roads in a colorful wrap.

The SUV appears much larger than the Edge for the USA (watch the video and compare if you want to). This was the case with the first generation as well: the Chinese SUV was 220 mm (8.6 inches) longer than the U.S. version with 100 mm (3.9 inches) of added wheelbase. It came with a two- and a three-row cabin to choose from, and it looks like the next generation is still at least as large.

Earlier reports suggested that the Edge for China would ship with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 252 PS (249 hp / 185 kW). Despite the camo all around the lower body, the new radiator grille is in full sight, framed by smooth headlamps and crowned by a DRL strip. The taillights can also be seen easily.

The interior remains to be shown, but we expect it to have the same basic layout as the 2023 Explorer SUV, complete with a large head unit and elegant center console.
