A Ford GT40 with a rich background goes on sale

A 1967 Ford GT40 is looking for a new owner in the USA. Its owner considers it a unique car thanks to its street-legal status and eventful history. There are no public estimates, but millions of USD sounds realistic.

It is believed that Ford has produced barely more than a hundred of first-generation GT40 models, most of them track-only. Only a handful of road-worthy examples saw the daylight, including this one.

The car on sale was assembled 56 years ago for Scuderia Filipinetti, a Swiss company that had it exhibited at the Geneva International Motor Show in the same year. It was then acquired by the UK branch office of Ford and used as a press car for the local reporters to test and review. As a result, it received extensive media coverage back in its era, becoming something of an icon.

Originally finished in Opalescent Silver Blue, the car has since been repeatedly resprayed, putting on a dark green livery and later a bright yellow one. The current owner and seller bought it in 2007 and had it completely restored, including the original finish.

Other than that, the listing is scarce on details. Not even the engine is mentioned. Most first-gen GT40 models packed a 4.7-liter V8, but there were exceptions.
